GPS to field Willie Mongin as candidate

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will allow its latest recruit Willie Mongin to defend the Puncak Borneo parliamentary seat.

His candidacy was confirmed by GPS head Abang Johari Abang Openg in Kuching today.

Mongin scored a huge upset in 2018, beating Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) Genot Sinel @ Jeannoth Sinel to win Puncak Borneo.

At the time, Mongin was a PKR member. He defected to Bersatu in 2020 before being accepted to PBB earlier this year.

Meanwhile, PBB women’s wing vice-head Nancy Shukri will be moved from Batang Sadong to Santubong, replacing incumbent Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar who is set to retire.

According to Bernama, Abang Johari said the GPS candidates this time around featured a combination of experienced politicians and 14 fresh faces as well as five women.
