Jamal files report against DAP’s Nga over old controversy

Jamal Yunos of Umno has accused Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming of reviving an old allegation that had been denied.

PETALING JAYA: Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Yunos has filed a police report against Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming over a now-deleted social media posting.

Nga’s post involved a controversial billboard put up by his own party in 2016. The billboard highlighted an alleged quotation by Jamal, where he apparently said it was “not wrong to call Chinese pigs (Cina babi)”.

In 2016, then Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua had confirmed that DAP was behind the billboard, which was taken down by the Election Commission soon after.

Yesterday, Nga posted a picture of the billboard and said: “How could the authority (sic) allow Umno-BN to insult other races and incite hatred like this? This is really madness.”

In response, Jamal said the picture that Nga had shared was an old allegation that surfaced during the Sungai Besar by-election in 2016. He added that he had denied making the remark and filed a police report in 2016, and recently on Nov 4.

“To me, everyone should campaign in a healthy and positive manner by highlighting the good things about their party and candidates. Campaigns that play up racial sentiments need to be avoided to ensure stability in the community,” he said.

Jamal is the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat. He lodged the police report at the Sabak Bernam police headquarters. - FMT
