As PBM embarks on new beginning, Sng tells dissenters to leave

After a series of internal crises, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) is planning a number of programmes including a nationwide tour to explain the party's current position.

Saying that there will be a "new beginning" for the party, PBM president Larry Sng (above) said it had also set out a list of instructions for all party members.

For one the party supreme council had decided that no members of PBM are allowed to join the Muafakat Nasional pact.

Should anyone be found to be joining Muafakat, their membership would be suspended and followed by dismissal from PBM, said Sng.

"I believe this is a new beginning. PBM needs leaders who are experienced, clean and sincere to bring positive changes to this country's political landscape.

"We will not take in controversial leaders from other parties to be in our leadership, but will instead nurture new ones internally.

"Those not happy can quit the party," he said.

Former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin

The statement was made just two days after PBM sacked Zuraida Kamaruddin, a senior politician who purportedly would be replacing Sng as party president.

Also sacked were 10 other leaders who were seen as close allies to the former Ampang MP.

Zuraida is a former PKR vice-president and one of those involved in the 2020 Sheraton Move, which caused the collapse of the then Pakatan Harapan administration which came to power following the 2018 general election.

She had initially joined Bersatu before going into PBM.

Zuraida was sacked after she and her associates allegedly failed to respond to show cause letters issued by PBM on Dec 19.

Election pact

Muafakat is an NGO spearheaded by former Umno leader Annuar Musa, who was sacked from his party in early December.

On Dec 14, Annuar confirmed that Zuraida had officially joined Muafakat.

According to Sng, the prohibition against PBM members from joining Muafakat was among the matters discussed in the party supreme council meeting recently.

The party also decided to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his allies in the unity government, he added.

"They are our new allies and the government policies would be this party's direction," Sng said.

The party president also stressed that since PBM is a party that has strong roots in Sabah and Sarawak, it would give focus on development in the two states.

"At this juncture, PBM has one parliamentary seat and three state seats (two in Selangor and one in Sabah).

"We will defend them and work with our allies through electoral cooperation.

"Joining a coalition would be something that we need to consider after six months, although discussions are ongoing," he said. - Mkini
