Selangor assembly won’t be dissolved before Aidilfitri, says Amirudin

Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said he could not imagine holding the state elections earlier than Aidilfitri, expected on April 22.

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor state legislative assembly will not be dissolved before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

“I cannot imagine (dissolving the state assembly) anytime in the near future. I can say that there will be no dissolution before Raya (Aidilfitri),” he said in a Bernama report.

“This is what I can confirm for Selangor,” he said after attending a meeting between the Pahang and Selangor state governments at Wisma Sri Pahang in Kuantan.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is tentatively set for April 22.

Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan and PAS-controlled Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are set to hold their state polls this year after deciding not to hold their state elections simultaneously with the 15th general election (GE15) on Nov 19.

On Wednesday, PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the three PAS-controlled states are to discuss organising their state elections simultaneously with the three states led by PH in a meeting scheduled for next week.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously said that while PAS had the right to determine when to hold state assembly elections, separate elections would cost more money.

Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan are said to be looking at dissolving their state assemblies in May or June.

Last month, the Election Commission (EC) said the six states should consider holding simultaneous state elections, which would cost RM450 million, as it would help the EC to better coordinate the deployment of manpower. - FMT
