Azalina throws in name as 8th contender for Umno VP posts

Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said has thrown her name in the hat for the Umno vice-presidency race.

The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) submitted her nomination form at the Umno headquarters located in Menara Dato Onn, at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

This was confirmed via a photograph (above) of her handing over the form to Umno headquarters staff published on Umno Online.

With Azalina joining the race, the upcoming party polls will now see an eight-way clash for three vice-president posts.

Incumbent party vice-presidents Khaled Nordin and Mahdzir Khalid have announced they will defend their positions, while incumbent party VP and former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has yet to decide.

Aside from the two incumbents, those also running for the posts include: Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Umno secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir, former Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad, former housing and local government minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican, and Titiwangsa MP Johari Ghani.

Elections for the vice-presidency, supreme council posts, and divisional committee posts will be held on March 18.

The Umno general assembly last month adopted a no-contest resolution for the president and deputy president posts. - Mkini
