State polls seat negotiations outcome by end of next month - Fahmi

Seat negotiation decision between Pakatan Harapan, BN and other parties in the government in facing the upcoming state elections will be announced before the end of next month, said Harapan communications chief Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi (above) reportedly said the announcement can be expected to be made earlier as formal negotiations had been ongoing in Selangor, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan.

Berita Harian quoted Fahmi as saying that the outcome of negotiations at the state level will be brought to the unity government secretariat for finalisation before being announced.

"I expect it (the announcement) to be not too long from now because formal negotiations had taken place for a while.

"It may be announced before the end of March or earlier. Not necessarily all six states will be announced simultaneously, maybe a few states will go first," said the communications and digital minister.

"Whatever it is, we wait for an official announcement from the secretariat," Fahmi reportedly said at a press conference after launching Selangor PKR's Information Strengthening Convention today.

The Lembah Pantai MP said this when asked about the progress of seat negotiations among parties in the government - ahead of the state elections due to be called by June.

Previously, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said Harapan had in principle proposed for incumbent parties to defend their respective seats won during the 14th general election, but the negotiation process will be left in the wisdom of each state menteri besar. - Mkini
