PETALING JAYA: The Johor state government is setting up a women’s shelter for victims of domestic violence and those undergoing divorce.
The home, called Rumah Pesona Wanita Johor, will be located in Johor Bahru. It will be run by a state family development foundation and is expected to be operational by June.
State executive councillor Khairin Nisa Ismail said the home will also provide shelter for women who need temporary accommodation if they are from outside the district, Bernama reported.
Khairin Nisa said the state government will also implement various initiatives, such as a savings programme under Kasih Suri Aspirasi Keluarga Johor which will benefit 12,773 eligible people.
Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that 4,700 people in Johor, out of the state’s four million population, were categorised as hardcore poor.
He said various agencies, including the welfare department and the Johor Islamic religious council should mobilise to ensure that the number becomes zero by 2027. - FMT
