Ranau villagers evacuated after severe mud flow

 

KOTA KINABALU: Severe mud flow hit a village in the Ranau district following heavy rain on Tuesday (Feb 28).

Firemen rushed to the scene and affected residents in Kampung Kemburongoh were advised to move to a safer location.

"The Ranau Fire and Rescue Department received a report at 10.48am about flash floods.

"The team went to the site and surveyed the area affected.

"No relocation operation was carried out but villagers were advised to move to a safer location.

"After ensuring that water level had gone down and there no other risks, the operation ended at 4pm," said the Fire and Rescue spokesman.

Meanwhile, wet weather also hit Tongod district, where rising water levels at Kampung Simundo there saw 141 villagers evacuated.

The department received a call at 11.19am asking for assistance as the village was inundated and some villagers trapped.

Kinabatangan Fire Station responded and assisted by Rela, started the relocation operation involving six senior citizens, 30 men, 33 women and 72 minors.

"After ensuring no more safety risks, the operation ended at 5.24pm," added the spokesman. - Star
