Zahid confirms Malacca CM Sulaiman's resignation

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says he has received Malacca Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali’s resignation letter.

He said Sulaiman handed him the letter when they met at his office at the Parliament complex.

“I wish to confirm that I have received the Malacca chief minister’s resignation letter.

“I will meet the Malacca governor Ali Rustam to present a suitable candidate to replace the Malacca chief minister.

“(And) I hope the governor will exercise his wisdom in accepting the appointment letter that I will submit and the swearing-in ceremony will be held on a suitable to the governor,” Zahid (above) said at a press conference at Masjid Kampung Lebu, near Bentong in Pahang, today.

Earlier, he and Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail attended a Ramadan charity event organised by the Pahang Welfare Department at the mosque compound.

On rumours that Tanjung Bidara assemblyperson Ab Rauf Yusoh is set to replace Sulaiman, Zahid refused to confirm or deny the matter.

“Let’s wait for the announcement from the Malacca government,” he added.

Since Monday, speculation has been rife that Rauf, who is also the Malacca Umno chairperson, would soon be appointed as the new chief minister.

The issue of a leadership change has been heating up in the months after BN scored a major victory during the state election held on Nov 20, 2021.

On March 27, Zahid said the structure of the Malacca government will be changed soon, similar to the unity government at the federal level. - Mkini
