Penang PH meets to finalise seat allocations for state polls

Pakatan Harapan leaders will meet with Barisan Nasional next week to discuss seats to contest at state assembly elections this year.

BATU KAWAN: Leaders of Penang Pakatan Harapan held talks this evening to finalise seat allocations among coalition partners in preparation for the coming state elections.

Penang PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the meeting was held as preparation before the meeting with Barisan Nasional next week, Bernama reported.

The two sides are partners in the federal government coalition, which also includes parties from Sabah and Sarawk.

“Today’s meeting is only for PH, after that it will be with BN and Umno,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri open house for the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency and Bukit Tambun state constituency.

Chow said BN should deal with a call by Penang MCA chairman Tan Teik Cheng for seat allocation talks between PH and BN in Penang to involve all BN component parties.

Separately, Penang BN chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir said Umno would first discuss with PH about Malay-majority seats which were previously contested by Umno. He said a second stage of talks would involve all parties in BN, Malaysiakini reported.

Penang is one of six states in which elections to the state assembly must be held in the weeks after June. The other states are Kedah, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu. - FMT
