Cops seek man in baju kurung over armed robbery

 

Police say the suspect seized the cash box from the cashier and escaped on a motorcycle with another man who was waiting outside.

PETALING JAYA: Police are hunting for a baju kurung-clad man who allegedly robbed a sundry shop in Padawan, Sarawak, on Monday.

Padawan police chief Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the police are investigating CCTV footage of the incident in which a man wearing baju kurung and a black motorcycle helmet was seen robbing a shop with a knife.

Abang Zainal said the shop’s worker and her colleague were approached by a man dressed like a woman and armed with a knife.

“The suspect seized the cash box from the cashier and escaped on a motorcycle with another suspect who was waiting outside the shop,” he said in a statement.

“Based on their dialect, both suspects are locals. Both victims did not sustain any injuries.”

Abang Zainal said the police have formed a task force to track down the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.

If convicted, the suspects can be imprisoned for 20 years and whipped. - FMT
