DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng today urged Penangites to lodge a report with the police against Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for claiming that Penang still belongs to Kedah.
In a statement, the former Penang chief minister said Sanusi was being “irresponsible” and “reckless” by making such a claim as it can create disaffection amongst the people of Kedah and Penang.
“Penangites should lodge police reports against Sanusi for creating public disaffection and trying to cause enmity between the people of Kedah and Penang by claiming Penang still belongs to Kedah.
“Not just 1.8 million Penangites, but both Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Ramkarpal Singh had also refuted Sanusi for failing to understand the law to the extent of disrespecting and even denigrating the Federal Constitution,” he said.
Lim’s statement came in response to Sanusi’s remarks on Monday, where he told a press conference that Penang purportedly still belongs to Kedah and has always been.
The remarks were heavily criticised by the prime minister, who reportedly said Sanusi should understand the Constitution and the final agreement of establishing the Federation of Malaya.
Anwar added that all leaders need to respect the Constitution agreement that has been consented to by all Malay rulers, including the sultan of Kedah, on the issue.
In Lim’s statement, the former finance minister claimed that Sanusi is also a danger to the country’s peace and security by questioning Penang’s sovereignty and right to exist as a state.
“Police reports should be lodged by 1.8 million Penangites to press for action against Sanusi to protect Penang and prevent ‘political interlopers’ from invading our state, and ensure that we can continue with our lives peacefully and enjoy prosperity,” he said.
He also called for Penang PAS to state its stand on the matter and whether it would disassociate itself from the Kedah menteri besar. - Mkini
