Muhyiddin mulls legal action against PM over gambling money claim

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin is discussing with lawyers over potential legal action to be taken against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The former prime minister today said the Pakatan Harapan chairperson’s insinuation that the opposition coalition received political funding from gambling companies is not true, defamatory and a lie.

“We will be discussing with our lawyers on our next course of action over the statement (by Anwar),” Muhyiddin told the media at the Kuala Lumpur Court’s Complex today.

He earlier attended the mention of his corruption case before the Sessions Court.

On Dec 5 last year, Anwar made the allegation during a press conference, implying that PN’s election funds partly came from gaming companies involved in special draws.

The next day (Dec 6), Muhyiddin denied claims that his coalition obtained funds from gambling companies to cover the costs of the 15th general election campaign.

The Pagoh MP called it a serious accusation, swearing that he did not take even a sen of donations from gambling companies.

On the same day, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan dismissed the allegation, calling it slander and challenged Anwar to prove his claims.

“The allegation is completely unfounded and PAS demands the prime minister to show proof of such wild allegations, if any.

“If unable, PN will consider legal action against those who slander,” Takiyuddin said in a media statement. - Mkini
