PN rep defied order to vacate service centre - Selangor MB's aide

Outgoing Gombak Setia assemblyperson Muhammad Hilman Idham had allegedly defied a notice to vacate his service centre following the dissolution of the Selangor state assembly.

Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari’s press secretary Jay Jay Denis added that Hilman (above) had used the premises as the Gombak Setia Perikatan Nasional (PN) operations centre.

“The state government’s stance is that government buildings should not be used for political party purposes.

“Although the notice (to vacate) was given by the Gombak District and Land Office to Hilman, he disobeyed and put up a political billboard in front of the service centre and changed the premises to the Gombak Setia PN operations centre.

“In fact, it is understood that the Community Service Centre which is based on government land was used for free by the former assemblyperson,” he said in a statement.

According to a notice dated June 27 by the Gombak Land and District council, the Gombak Setia service centre was unlawfully located on government land.

The notice added that this was an offence under Section 435 of the National Land Code (Act 828) and that the building had to be vacated effective immediately.

Earlier, Hilman alleged that he was occupying the land with the full knowledge of the state authorities.

He said that several officers from the Gombak District and Land Office and the Selayang Municipal Council arrived at the centre at 3.50pm yesterday to vacate the place.

He added that such an act was a misuse of power by Amirudin.

“The reason put forward - that there was no permission by the state government to set up the service centre - is unreasonable and stupid as it has been operating for five years with the full knowledge of the state government.

“Clearly, this action is an act of misuse of power, threats, and political vendetta by the Selangor government led by Amirudin.

“This desperado action clearly shows Pakatan Harapan’s anger towards the rise of the people and the strength of PN ahead of the state election that will take place soon,” said the opposition rep.

In an administrative notice dated today, Hilman’s lawyer from Messrs Sasha Lyna asserted that the land has been used for the purpose of various Selangor state assemblyperson’s service centres for many years prior to our client’s occupancy.

“As such, our client takes the strongest objection to any suggestion that he has purportedly unlawfully occupied the land under section 435 of the National Land Code,” the notice read.

Two other service centres vacated

Jay Jay said that a notice to vacate the premises was served on June 27 to several service centres located on government land.

This included the Gombak Setia, Sungai Tua, and Hulu Kelang service centres.

“Previously, the Gombak District and Land Office did not take enforcement action because the space was (earlier) used as a service centre.

“However, after the Selangor state assembly was dissolved on June 23, 2023, a notice to vacate the premises was given on June 27 to service centres based on government land, including in the Sungai Tua and Hulu Kelang constituencies.

“These two service centres have complied with the notice and vacated their respective sites because the state government’s stipulation is that government buildings should not be used for political party purposes,” he said. - Mkini
