Bersatu sacks one, suspends two for sabotaging PN campaign

Bersatu has sacked one member and suspended two others for three years after they were found to have sabotaged Perikatan Nasional (PN)’s state election campaigns.

Malaysiakini understands actions against the three were linked to reports of an internal revolt against PN’s Batang Kali candidate Muhammad Muhaimin Harith.

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin in a statement said the decision was reached by the party’s supreme council in a meeting at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

“Bersatu stresses our highest commitment to ensure the party’s machinery is at its most optimum level to face the six state elections and also the Kuala Terengganu by-election, in order to ensure PN’s victory.

“Therefore, Bersatu stresses that any member who did not obtain the party’s permission but yet acts to go against party discipline by contesting or becoming a seconder for any other party’s candidate, or an independent, their membership will be automatically terminated based on Article 10.2.4 of the party’s constitution,” said Hamzah (above).

This morning, Muhammad Muhaimin called on his Bersatu compatriots to unite and place party interest above all.

Hamzah’s statement today did not identify the three individuals.

Within Perikatan Nasional, PAS also previously issued a similar warning for all of its members to abide by the leadership’s decisions on candidates, or risk action. - Mkini
