Anwar to meet MIC today

STATE POLLS | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will be meeting with MIC leaders today.

This came amid disgruntlement and fracturing within the BN component party.

"Tomorrow (today) I will talk to MIC president SA Vigneswaran. I want to meet all the MIC leaders so they do not misunderstand, we must work as a team," he was quoted as saying by FMT last night.

Anwar had said this at a ceramah in Jeram Padang, Negeri Sembilan.

The online news portal had previously cited sources as alleging that the meeting was to discuss MIC's "ill-treatment" by Umno.

MIC president SA Vigneswaran

Vigneswaran had previously said that the reason MIC and MCA sat out the six state elections was because the two parties were sidelined in seat negotiation talks between BN - led by Umno - and Pakatan Harapan.

This has led to splintering within MIC, with leaders defecting to Perikatan Nasional.

At the ceramah last night, Anwar, however, sought to convince Indian voters that his coalition government was their best bet.

“You are not going to get a fair team of leaders like we are trying to build now,” he said. - Mkini
