I'm no one's proxy - N Sembilan's youngest election candidate

STATE POLLS | Muhammad Syakir Fitri Sadri, the youngest candidate in the Negeri Sembilan state election has dismissed being a proxy for any party.

The 25-year-old, who is a former aide to incumbent Ampangan assemblyperson Mohamad Taufek Abd Ghani, is contesting as an independent in the Paroi state seat.

Following his exclusion from PKR's list, Taufek has announced contesting as an independent in the upcoming polls.

"My participation in the election has nothing to do with anyone or any party. Some may think that I have been sent to split votes, but I want to clarify that I'm contesting to win.

"I have not been told by anyone to contest here, neither am I sponsored by anyone. You can check the records, I'm contesting with money channelled by friends and family," Utusan Malaysia quoted an emotional Syakir saying in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan.

According to him, the main reason he decided to contest was to empower the youth, given the demography of the Paroi state seat, where young voters make up about 60 percent of the 61,000 electorates.

On Aug 12, Paroi will witness a three-way clash between Syakir, Pakatan Harapan's Norwani Ahmat (Amanah), and Perikatan Nasional's Kamarol Ridzuan Mohd Zin (PAS). - Mkini
