Ministry looking into medical negligence claim against Tuaran Hospital

Health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the ministry would need to conduct an investigation to determine the veracity of the allegation.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The health ministry will look into an allegation against the Tuaran Hospital accident and emergency unit, which has been accused of failing to provide proper treatment to a patient, resulting in her death.

Health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the ministry would need to conduct an investigation to determine the veracity of the allegation.

“The Sabah health department has issued a statement. We will investigate what actually happened on the day of the incident.

“The department will also meet with the victim’s family and we will issue an update from time to time,” she told reporters when assisting in the campaign for Kuala Terengganu PKR parliamentary candidate Azan Ismail in Bukit Kecil, here.

Zaliha said for now, the ministry was unable to provide a detailed explanation of the incident but it was not dismissing the complaint.

According to Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau, who visited the victim’s family, the patient was initially taken to Tuaran Hospital after a fall.

However, the medical staff on duty reportedly found no serious injuries and allowed the patient to return home. - FMT
