'Don't worry Cikgu Kasim' - PN candidate talks up voters' support

PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Perikatan Nasional candidate Kasim Samat is talking up the voters’ positive reaction to him.

He said the voters he met throughout the campaign period gave assurances that they would support him in the upcoming by-election.

“‘Don't worry Cikgu Kasim’, that's how the voters responded to me.

“I tell you, I'm surprised, it's very positive," Kasim (above) told the media while campaigning in Pelangai, near Bentong today.

The Pelangai by-election is being held following the death of incumbent assemblyperson Johari Harun in a light plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam, on Aug 17.

The Election Commission set Oct 7 as the polling day to elect new representatives for the area.

It will see a three-cornered fight between BN, PN and an independent candidate.

In the last general election, Johari won the seat with a majority of 4,048 votes, beating Kasim who got 3,260 votes while Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri from Pakatan Harapan (2,031 votes) and Isa Ahmad from Pejuang (65 votes) trailed behind.

Meanwhile, Kasim said he was not fazed by the Election Court's decision to annul the victory of Kemaman MP Che Alias Hamid from PAS.

Kasim said he complied with all the rules set by the EC for the Pelangai by-election campaign.

“We are going as outlined, especially the latest regulations in the six state elections.

“God willing, I hope there will be no petitions like the one in Kuala Terengganu and the latest, Kemaman," he said. - Mkini
