PETALING JAYA: It is likely that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will retain his position unopposed in the party elections next month, says Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor.
“There will be no contest … nobody wants to become the party president,” he said at a press conference in Alor Setar, Kedah.
Hadi and deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man were also unchallenged in party elections in Terengganu two years ago.
Sanusi, the Perikatan Nasional election director, also said he would not stand for the post of vice-president because he was not qualified for the job.
“I was offered (the post) but I declined. I don’t think I’m suitable to become a vice-president. I will instead vie to be a central committee member, because that is what suits me,” he said.
He said to become one of PAS’s top five (leaders), the person must have certain leadership qualities. - FMT
