No criminal elements in Sungai Besar custodial death - cops

No criminal injuries were detected in the case of a man who died while in custody at Sungai Besar police station, Selangor, yesterday.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Compliance Department (JIPS) director Azri Ahmad said in a statement that the 49-year-old man's post-mortem was carried out at Sungai Buloh Hospital at about 4.20pm yesterday and the deceased's Covid-19 detection test was negative.

“The results of the autopsy found no criminal injuries and we are still awaiting the results of the laboratory investigation for the cause of death.

"The man was arrested on Thursday under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“At about 3.30am on Friday, officers on duty found the man lying down and unconscious.

“A medical team was immediately contacted for further treatment but at 4.40am, the assistant medical officer attended and examined the man involved and confirmed the death," said Azri.

He said the Crime and Deaths in Custody Investigation Unit of JIPS would continue the investigation from various angles before handing over the results of the investigation to the coroner. - Mkini
