Bersatu’s leadership has issued a show cause letter to Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, who recently announced that he supports Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's premiership.
Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin revealed this following a supreme council meeting yesterday.
"During last night's meeting chaired by party president Muhyiddin Yassin, the Bersatu supreme council also discussed about Iskandar.
"Hence, the party's disciplinary board has issued a show cause letter to Iskandar (above), before it takes any further action against him as per the party constitution," he said in a statement today.
The secretary-general, however, did not provide further details on the matter, including when the letter was issued to Iskandar and if there was any deadline set for the latter to respond.
On Oct 12, Iskandar, who won the Kuala Kangsar seat on a Perikatan Nasional ticket during the 15th general election, issued a press statement saying that he now supports the prime minister.
However, the lawmaker insisted that he was still loyal to the opposition coalition.
Following this, Hamzah, who is the opposition leader, alleged that the government had blackmailed Iskandar to support Anwar's premiership.
Muhyiddin reportedly told the media last week that the Bersatu supreme council would discuss action against Iskandar in yesterday’s meeting.
