Don't ask about disunity, unity minister says on Palestine week

National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang has declined to comment on a heated discourse about the Palestine Solidarity Week, adding he would not entertain such questions.

"Ask the prime minister. I am the unity (minister). I want unity, not disunity.

"If it's about disunity, don't ask me," Aaron (above) said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Palestine Solidarity Week, which started yesterday and will run until Friday, is being held in schools and other educational institutions.

The Education Ministry justified this as being necessary to explain to students about the Palestine-Israel conflict.

However, the programme - said to be not compulsory - drew brickbats from critics who argued that international conflicts should be kept out of schools.

There were also concerns after photographs emerged last week - prior to the programme’s commencement - of schoolchildren draped in scarves mimicking Hamas fighters and brandishing toy guns.

However, the government has moved to ensure that the Palestine Solidarity Week does not promote violence.
