2021 gang robbery: IP against 3 MACC officers with AGC - Azalina

The investigation paper (IP) on a 2021 gang robbery probe against three MACC officers is now with the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action.

In a written parliamentary reply to Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng’s question to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said said that the IP on the Ampang incident was carried out under Section 395 of the Penal Code (gang robbery).

“At this time, the IP has been referred to the AGC and is being studied,” Azalina (above) said in the reply issued during the Dewan Rakyat sitting.

Between Dec 12 and 16, 2021, the police announced the arrest of three MACC officers to assist in investigations into a robbery case at a house along Jalan Ampang, involving losses of RM700,000.

In relation to the robbery incident that allegedly took place on Dec 10 of the same year, one MACC officer was nabbed the next day.

The police picked up the other two anti-graft officers six days after the robbery.

The MACC trio has since been released from custody following the expiry of their remand.

When contacted by Malaysiakini recently, Lim, who is also a practising lawyer, confirmed that the written parliamentary reply came on the heels of him having written to Anwar on Sept 20 to seek an update on the police investigation, which had been long-standing for nearly two years.

It is understood that the robbery victim was an influential businessperson from China who resides in Malaysia as part of the My Second Home (MM2H) programme for expatriates. - Mkini
