PETALING JAYA: Selangor police said two children saw Zayn Rayyan Abdul Mattin, the six-year-old autistic boy who was murdered, on the day he was reported missing.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the children saw Zayn on the second and third floors of Block R of Apartment Idaman in Damansara Damai, the block where Zayn’s family lives.

“From the screenings we have conducted, police have found two child witnesses who saw the victim on the evening of Dec 5,” Hussein told FMT.

A day after he was reported missing, Zayn’s body was found in a stream about 200m from his home.

Post-mortem results showed he had died within 48 hours of his body being found.

Police had previously said they would go door-to-door in the Idaman residential area, which comprises 18 blocks of flats and 2,400 homes.

Yesterday, it was reported that investigators found a sock in a stream near where Zayn’s body was found.

Hussein reportedly said the sock would be sent to a laboratory for analysis to ascertain if it belonged to Zayn.

On Dec 11, he was reported to have said that police believed only one person was involved in the murder, based on the strangulation marks and signs of struggle found on Zayn’s body.

“We have considered all angles, gone through the police database and carried out mass screenings. We hope to gain significant leads to apprehend the offender,” Bernama quoted him as saying. - FMT
