No lawyer, no problem, see you in court, Chegubard tells Nik Nazmi

PUTRAJAYA: Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin says he is prepared to face natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in court over allegations concerning a flood mitigation project, even without legal representation.

Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard, challenged Nik Nazmi to thrash out the matter in court so that “the public will be made aware of the issue” and for those involved to be made to answer.

“If I can’t afford a lawyer, I will go to court (to represent) myself. I want to submit to court all the relevant documents, subpoena all who signed the contracts involved and question each of them.

Nik Nazmi’s lawyers should not object on grounds of irrelevance,” he told reporters outside the natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry here today.

Last week, Nik Nazmi said he would sue Badrul Hisham over his claims that the river basin transformation (RTB) project cost up to RM16.6 billion, with unknown companies and individuals receiving commissions as proxies to the minister.

Describing the allegations as “baseless”, he said they showed “a lack of understanding of the government’s procurement processes and budget allocations”.

“I categorically deny these malicious falsehoods and will take legal action against him soon,” he said.

Subsequently, Nik Nazmi said his lawyer issued a letter of demand (LOD) to Chegubard on Wednesday, asking for an immediate retraction and a public apology for the statements in question.

However, Chegubard said he never received the LOD, prompting him to come to the ministry to collect it in person today.

Chegubard said he was then informed that the LOD was only sent to him by registered mail today. - FMT
