PETALING JAYA: A movement that promotes boycotts against Israeli interests said today that a defamation suit has been filed against it by McDonald’s Malaysia.

BDS Malaysia said it recently received a writ of summons accusing the group of defaming the fast food franchise.

“They claim their business has suffered lately and are blaming us. We categorically deny this (defaming McDonald’s Malaysia). We have therefore decided to let the court decide on the matter,” it said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The movement added that it has engaged a legal firm and would issue a more detailed statement upon receiving advice from its lawyers.

FMT is awaiting comment from McDonald’s Malaysia.

BDS Malaysia is an independent coalition of various organisations and individuals who promote the cause of freedom, justice and equality for Palestine through boycotts, divestments and sanctions.

Its aims are in line with that of the Palestinian BDS national committee which calls for a boycott of Israeli and international companies involved in the violation of Palestinian rights. - FMT
