41 tonnes of rice seized by authorities in Selayang

Agriculture and food security ministry officers found that the business was storing rice beyond the permitted amount under its licence.

PETALING JAYA: The agriculture and food security ministry seized 41 tonnes of rice after routine checks on wholesale and retail rice traders in Selayang, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

The ministry said its officers found that one of the business premises was storing rice beyond the permitted amount under its licence.

It added that the rice seized was of various grades and was worth an estimated RM131,568. It was also the company’s second offence.

“The case is being investigated under the Control of Padi and Rice (Licensing of Padi Purchasers) Regulations. The company can be fined up to RM50,000 if found guilty, since it is the second offence,” the ministry said in a statement.

It reminded those licensed to sell rice to comply with the law or face legal action. - FMT
