Anwar, Dr M, Muhyiddin and Ismail attend royal tea party

PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim joined former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob at a tea party graced by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, today.

They have all served under the King during his reign.

The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, also attended the royal tea reception held at Istana Negara, ahead of the completion of the King’s reign.

The event was attended by 2,500 guests, including Cabinet ministers, MPs and heads of foreign missions.

The others present included Anwar’s wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail,  deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul.

The guests were entertained by a orchestral performance by Kolej Yayasan Saad from Melaka.

The royal couple spent almost an hour mingling and taking photos with the guests, Bernama reported.

Other events scheduled to take place in conjunction with the completion of the King’s reign include the state banquet next Saturday.

Sultan Abdullah will complete his term as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 30.

The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, will begin his reign as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a five-year term, effective Jan 31. - FMT
