'Chow Kit Move': Sanusi was just teasing, says Wan Fayhsal

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has maintained there is no plot to topple the government.

He said remarks made by Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor implying otherwise were not to be taken seriously.

“He was just teasing. Sanusi likes to use sharp sarcasm,” the Machang MP said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

Yesterday, Sanusi affirmed that the government would be toppled soon and that it was just a matter of time.

“It won’t be five years (one term) before they topple. It may happen this year, even this month,” he had said.

However, he said the purported Dubai Move plot was a red herring.

Instead, he implied there was a “Chow Kit Move” as the meeting between Perikatan Nasional leaders and government backbenchers purportedly occurred in Kuala Lumpur, not Dubai.

He also indicated that the meeting in Dubai alleged by Community Communications Department (J-Kom) deputy director-general Ismail Yusop was just a coincidence.

“I think Dubai was just a dummy (decoy) because they (the alleged conspirators) went to Dubai. Lots of people go to Dubai,” Sanusi said.

According to Ismail, the meeting in Dubai was meant to assign specific tasks to “agents” responsible for identifying MPs who might switch their support to the opposition with inducements.

The alleged plot gained further credence on Tuesday when Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the existence of the Dubai Move, citing intelligence reports.

However, Zahid refused to elaborate when asked about the identities of those involved in the plot based on the intelligence reports.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said the Dubai Move allegations were just an attempt by the government to divert attention from current issues which reflected badly on the Madani administration.

This included a push by DAP for local elections, or statements from party leaders causing public concern.

“No such thing as a Dubai Move,” he reiterated today. - Mkini
