Kelantan ruler revokes former J-Kom chief's datukship

Kelantan ruler Sultan Muhammad V has officially revoked the Setia Mahkota Kelantan title previously awarded to former Corporate Communications Department (J-Kom) director-general Mohammad Agus.

Kelantan State Secretary Nazran Muhammad confirmed the matter to Malaysiakini after the information went viral a few days ago.

“It is as gazetted,” he replied briefly in a text message.

According to the government gazette dated Dec 28 last year, the revoking took effect on Dec 2.

There was no reason stated for the revoking.

The Setia Mahkota Kelantan comes with the title “Datuk” and was awarded to Agus in 2011.

In 2012, the Kelantanese was awarded the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang, which also carries the title “Datuk”.

Agus (above), a former academician who joined the government, was previously embroiled in a controversy for allegedly having a lewd conversation with new J-Kom staffer Abdul Wahab Abd Kader Jailani.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that the police are investigating the matter - under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging modesty and Section 377D for the offence of committing an indecent act.

On Jan 16, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the investigation paper on the alleged sexual harassment had been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Dec 18.

Wahab alleged that Agus sexually harassed him at a hotel in Bintulu, Sarawak, on Oct 21 last year.

However, Agus claimed the three-minute-long video allegedly showing him engaging in the lewd conversation was doctored and pointed to one “Mr H” as the purported mastermind.

Agus, however, can continue using the “Datuk” title as he had been conferred with similar titles by other states, such as the Indera Mahkota Pahang title.

Malaysiakini has contacted Agus for his comments, but the calls went unanswered.

He has also not responded to a WhatsApp message.
