PUTRAJAYA: Graft investigators have arrested four individuals, including a former political secretary for allegedly accepting bribes from companies and contractors who were awarded tenders from a certain ministry.
Sources with knowledge of the investigation said the four suspects were believed to have accepted bribes from companies who obtained jobs worth millions of ringgit.
The offence was said to have been committed between 2020 and 2021.
It is learnt that the main suspect in this case was the former political secretary of a former minister, who was believed to have demanded and accepted bribes to ensure tenders were awarded to "successful" contractors.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday (Jan 23) night when they were summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters while another was arrested in Shah Alam.
Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin allowed for three of the suspects to be remanded for four days until Jan 27.
Another suspect was remanded for three days starting Wednesday (Jan 24).
MACC senior director of special operations Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrests and that the case was Section 16 of the MACC Act.
Azmi did not rule out the possibility of several more individuals to assist investigation. - Star
