Penang offers 50% discount on overdue fines for land, plot owners

Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the discount is applied to all land and plot taxpayers making overdue fine payments over the counter or online.

PETALING JAYA: The Penang state government is offering a 50% discount for land and plot owners making a one-time lump sum payment to settle their overdue fines.

Its chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the discount was approved during a state government meeting on Dec 6 last year, and will be in effect until May 31.

“The initiative aims to encourage land and plot owners to settle their taxes as required,” he said in a statement.

Chow said the discount is automatically applied to all land and plot taxpayers making overdue fine payments, either at the land and district office counter or through the PgLAND portal online.

“Additionally, it applies to taxpayers receiving Penalty Notice 6A (land tax) or Penalty Notice 11 (plot tax),” he added.

However, Chow said the reduction is not retroactive and does not apply to payments made in instalments or overdue fines paid before Jan 2, the effective date for this offer.

“The administration is committed to implementing necessary initiatives to encourage land owners in Penang to pay land tax or plot tax as outlined under Penang’s national land code,” he said.

“Any landowner with further inquiries on related matters is encouraged to contact the revenue unit, Penang land and mines office, or the land and district office.” - FMT
