Mat Sabu condemns OIC countries that increased trade with Israel

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu today condemned members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that have increased trade with Israel following the events of Oct 7 last year.

He also praised non-Muslim countries such as Brazil, South Africa, and China which have criticised Israel.

“Unfortunately, OIC countries have increased trade with Israel since Oct 7.

“There are Muslim countries in Nato (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) who have increased trade with Israel,” he said at Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur, during the “Mega rally for Palestine” event this evening.

On Oct 7, Hamas launched an attack on Israel which killed 1,139 people, mostly civilians, while 240 others were seized as captives.

Israel increased its aggression on Palestine following the operation. More than 30,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have died in the retaliatory attacks.

The rally today saw hundreds of Malaysians marching in solidarity with Palestinians and calling for an end to Israel’s aggression.

Mohamad also pointed out that Jews in the US and UK have expressed shame over Israel’s actions.

“And among the Jews themselves who are in the United States, who are in Britain, they have come out to show their shame because tyranny is not in the Torah, not in the Gospel of Injil.

“There is nothing in the Bible that allows tyranny,” he said.

Meanwhile, Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) steering committee member Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan said they will buy several cargo ships and attempt to break the siege on Gaza.

“FFC has bought a cargo ship and will buy a few more, god willing, and when all of the technicalities and also clearance have been gotten then we will sail as soon as possible.

“We cannot be late. Why? Because we fear there will no longer be a Gaza for us to support if we delay our help,” she said in her speech at the rally today.

‘Suspend relations with US’

Also at the rally was Parti Sosialis Malaysia chairperson Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj who called for Malaysia to suspend diplomatic relations with the US until it stops arming Israel.

“If it (the US) continues to send weapons to Israel, we will withdraw our ambassador,” he suggested.

Israel will continue its tyranny as long as the US supports it, he explained.

Today’s rally began at 2pm in front of Menara Tabung Haji at Jalan Tun Razak and participants marched from there to Padang Merbok, with a stop at the US embassy on the way.

The rally continued with short speeches from several people through a drizzle of rain until it ended slightly after 6pm.

Rally organisers told Malaysiakini there were about 5,000 to 6,000 march participants and about 2,000 rallygoers gathered at Padang Merbok.

Malaysiakini estimates there were around 1,000 participants overall. - Mkini
