MRSM teacher accused of paedophilia lodges defamation report

A teacher accused of paedophilia by a student on social media has lodged a police report alleging defamation, according to Kelantan police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun.

He told the New Straits Times that the report was lodged at the Tumpat police station by the teacher from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Tumpat and that the case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.

It is also being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services to make or spread comments online.

Following the earlier allegations, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairperson Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki directed an immediate and thorough probe, saying that an investigating team from Mara headquarters has been set up and will soon proceed to MRSM Tumpat.

He also announced that the teacher had been suspended pending the completion of the investigation.

On March 28, the allegations surfaced on social media, with a student claiming that the teacher was still working at the boarding school despite numerous allegations having been filed against him.

The individual claimed that she and her friends were among the victims of his actions. - Mkini
