Hadi's son disrespecting Quran by 'manipulating' verse - FT PKR Youth

Federal Territories PKR Youth has accused PAS committee member Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi of misusing verses from the Quran in commenting on the debate surrounding the usage of the word kafir (infidel).

This comes after the son of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang wrote on Facebook: "Qul ya ayyuha al-qafiruun or Qul ya ayyuhal non-Muslim" (Say O disbelievers or say O non-Muslims).

"Qul ya ayyuha al-qafiruun" is a verse from Surah al-Kafirun in the Quran that explains the difference between the faith and worship of Muslims and non-believers.

FT PKR Youth information chief Muhammad Azha Salahudin said Khalid's (above) actions were disrespectful to the Quran.

"As a member of the state legislative assembly and the son of the PAS president, he should better understand the sensitivity of Muslims in Malaysia and not use verses of the Quran as cheap political capital, especially in this holy month of Ramadan," Azha said.

Differences of opinion should be celebrated through mature and open discussions based on knowledge, not with certain parties taking the opportunity to "manipulate and play with the holy verses of the Quran just to gain political advantage," he added.

Khalil wrote the controversial post a few days ago but it is no longer visible after receiving a barrage of criticism.

The Batu Buruk assemblyperson is believed to have been commenting on the controversy that arose after Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that she had banned the word kafir in her home.

Fadhlina explained that she did not ban words used in the Quran, but instead suggested appropriate usage in everyday life.

The term kafir or infidel can be perceived as pejorative.

Azha said PAS' "hypocritical" attitude became more evident when its leaders failed to reprimand or take action against Khalil.
