Malaysia thrash Algeria 5-0 in second Thomas Cup whitewash

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia scored a second thrashing of their opponents in the group stage of the Thomas Cup finals today with a 5-0 whitewash of Algeria in Chengdu, China.

It was their second 5-0 victory after thrashing Hong Kong yesterday.

In today’s matches, doubles pair Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri gave Malaysia an unassailable 3-0 lead by beating Sifeddine Larbaoui-Mohamed Abdelaziz Ouchefoun 21-8, 21-3.

Professional men’s singles ace Lee Zii Jia started the rout by easily defeating Adel Hamek 21-8, 21-6 in the first match of the day, followed by Cheam June Wei’s victory over Youcef Sabri Medel 21-9, 21-14.

Justin Hoh then claimed another easy scalp, defeating Mohamed Abderrahim Belarbi 21-10, 21-14 before the doubles pair of Nur Izzuddin Rumsani-Soh Wooi Yik wrapped up the night with a 21-13, 21-9 victory over Koceila Mammeri-Youcef Sabri Medel.
