Man who claimed to support Anwar appears on PN campaign

KKB BY-ELECTION | During her first walkabout to visit the residents of Kuala Kubu Baharu last Thursday, Pakatan Harapan candidate for the by-election Pang Sock Tao and her entourage encountered a man who expressed his discontent over cost-of-living issues.

Although he initially claimed to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, a video circulating on social media last night revealed he had appeared on Perikatan Nasional’s campaign trail.

The video posted on the social media account @AmenoWorld showed the man holding a PN flag in one hand and speaking into a microphone in the other, accompanied by the party’s campaign staff.

In the video, he was seen criticising Anwar and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

“PAS didn’t pay me to speak, neither did PN. I am speaking of my own accord. I see that people across Malaysia, be they Chinese, Malay, or Indian, are all facing hardship,” he said.

He subsequently led PN supporters in chanting “Allahu Akbar”.

The video also showed him meeting Selangor PN chairperson Azmin Ali.

Cost of living concerns

The public received Pang warmly as she introduced herself during her visit last Thursday, save for the man who complained about the rising cost of living and criticised DAP.

He claimed to be a hardcore Anwar supporter and was only willing to reveal his surname, Lim, and not his full name.

The man appeared agitated and even seized an 8TV camera crew’s microphone to speak.

“Now, eating wonton noodles costs RM8.50, and coffee RM2.50. I earn RM30 a day, how can I afford this? How can I live?” he said.

Lim also noted that the incumbent Lee Kee Hiong was nowhere to be seen after she was elected last year.

Only Hulu Selangor Municipal Council councillor Jessie Yong Chan Hee stopped to listen to his complaints, while Pang and the rest of her team moved on to meet other residents. - Mkini
