PETALING JAYA: The nation’s sole Orang Asli MP Ramli Nor has urged the community in Kuala Kubu Baharu to give Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao their backing come polling day on May 11.

Ramli, an Umno member and Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, said this is because Barisan Nasional is a “friend” of PH, Bernama reported.

The Cameron Highlands MP said he was making this call to prevent any confusion among Orang Asli voters, which he described as loyal to BN, on who to support in the by-election.

“The Orang Asli in Kuala Kubu Baharu must vote for PH. Why, ladies and gentlemen? Because now BN and PH are friends. We do not want to stab our friends (in the back). PH helped us win the Pelangai by-election (last year).

“Like what Umno president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) has said, as friends, we must support each other and ensure political stability. I hope the Temuan tribes in Kuala Kubu Baharu will ensure loyalty to PH. Vote for PH,” he was quoted as saying.

Ramli had accompanied Pang to meet the Kampung Tun Razak Orang Asli community in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

The state constituency has 1,279 Orang Asli voters residing in seven villages.

Pang faces a four-cornered fight against Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat was declared vacant following the death of its three-term assemblyman, Lee Kee Hiong, on March 21 from cancer. - FMT
