GEORGE TOWN: Persons with Disabilities (OKU) will be entitled to unlimited free ferry rides between the Raja Tun Uda jetty here and the Sultan Abdul Halim Shah jetty in Butterworth starting April 8.

This is a joint initiative between Penang Port Commission (PPC) and Penang Port Sdn Bhd, according to PPC chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, Bernama reported.

“Beginning April 8, OKU in all categories will be eligible for free ferry rides.

“The commission and the port have refined the mechanism for implementing this free fare, but the OKU must first register at either terminal (on the island or mainland),” he told a media conference here.

Also present was Penang Port chief executive officer V Sasedharan.

To register, Yeoh said applicants must bring their MyKad and the OKU card issued by the social welfare department.

He hopes that the initiative can make life easier for OKU and allow them to continue using the services. - FMT
