Ali Rustam is Malacca governor for second term

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today presented the instrument of appointment to Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam as the Malacca governor for a second term in a ceremony held at Singgahsana Kecil, Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was in attendance.

Also present were Attorney-General Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul, Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh and Malacca legislative speaker Ibrahim Durum.

Ali, 75, was first appointed as the seventh Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Malacca on June 4, 2020, replacing Mohd Khalil Yaakob.

His reappointment is for a four-year term, effective June 4.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from Universiti Sains Malaysia and served as Batu Berendam MP from 1995 to 1999.

He also served as the ninth Malacca chief minister from 1999 to 2013.

Rauf in a Facebook post, congratulated Ali on his reappointment.

He said the state government and people of Malacca always prayed for continued prosperity under Ali’s leadership and to be showered with all the grace, blessings and prosperity.
