Kampar District Council: Officers catching strays, not stealing livestock

The Kampar District Council has refuted allegations that its enforcement officers stole livestock from a private enclosure.

Council president Ahmad Suqairy Alias clarified that its enforcement division seized the two buffaloes in question on April 23 for straying into the Tunku Abdul Rahman College area in Kampar.

“That operation was conducted in response to complaints from the college management regarding stray cattle and buffaloes wandering into the college area. On that day, two buffaloes were caught.

“The council vehemently denies the allegation and maintains that the seizure was made in the college area,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said it was the council’s duty to deal with stray animals to ensure the safety of road users and the well-being of residents.

On Monday, a group of cattle and buffalo farmers filed a police report claiming the council snatched their livestock from a pen in a private area, based on video footage they obtained.

Speaking on behalf of the breeders, Mohamad Yusof Yasin, 65, said a police report was made last Wednesday at the Kampar police headquarters regarding an incident on April 23 in Kampar when two buffaloes belonging to a breeder went missing.

Kampar police chief Mohamad Nazri Daud, when contacted, confirmed that police received a report related to the incident on April 24 and the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Suqairy said the council will cooperate fully in the police investigation.
