PKR founding member Syed Husin Ali is in critical condition at Selayang Hospital.
His son Muhammad Ali revealed this in a brief text message to the media today.
“His health deteriorated suddenly. Please pray for him.
“He’s unconscious and is in a critical condition,” said Muhammad.
Syed Husin became PKR deputy president following the merger of Parti Rakyat Malaysia, of which he was president, and Parti Keadilan Nasional in 2003.
The 87-year-old former Universiti Malaya associate professor was detained under the now-repealed Internal Security Act (ISA) from 1974 to 1980 for fighting for the plight of poor farmers in Baling, Kedah
He had since called for the government to apologise to all ISA detainees.
The octogenarian had also urged the government to abolish controversial laws such as Sedition Act, and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012. - Mkini
