PETALING JAYA
More than 250 National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) members took part in peaceful lunch-hour pickets at five banks nationwide today.

NUBE said the protests were to highlight various key issues, including persistent union-busting attempts by bank managements, exorbitant salaries paid to CEOs, access to training, fair pay and a safe environment in which to work.

There is an ongoing fight for fair wages and benefits, ensuring that all bank employees are compensated justly for their hard work and dedication,
 it said in a statement.

The union said bank employees were being denied opportunities to attend paid training and upskilling programmes, which it said were essential for career advancement and job security.

Banks should address issues of bullying, discrimination and harassment in the workplace, and push for a culture of respect and dignity for all employees.

It said police were present during the pickets but did not intervene.

NUBE said the picketing was well-received by the public who were also unhappy with the salaries of CEOs.

At one branch, customers went above and beyond by sponsoring drinking water for the participants,
 it said.

It said further action is being planned but did not give details.

The union will continue to stand strong, advocating for fair treatment and justice for all its members. - FMT
