SHAH ALAM
Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor has submitted a second application for the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to drop two charges brought against him for making seditious statements about the royalty.

His lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud told Justice Aslam Zainuddin in the High Court here that there had been a new development in the case.

“I believe the attorney-general (AG) needs time to consider the representations.

Therefore I suggest a postponement of two months,
 he said.

Deputy public prosecutor Masri Daud confirmed receipt by the AGC of the representations.

We need time to review (them) and we support the defence team’s request to await (the AGC’s decision),
 he said.

The Court fixed Sept 27 for case mention.

In May, the AG rejected the first set of representations lodged by Sanusi seeking a withdrawal of the charges.

Sanusi is facing two charges under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, punishable under Section 4(1) of the same act which carries a fine of RM5,000, a maximum jail sentence of three years, or both, upon conviction.

The charges concern remarks he made at a political talk about the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the establishment of the unity government. - FMT
