Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said Rembia assemblyman Jailani Khamis’s defection would not have any impact on the party’s state chapter.

PETALING JAYA
Dr Akmal Saleh today questioned PAS’s stand on party hopping after it welcomed into its fold an assemblyman who had been suspended by Umno.

The Umno Youth chief told FMT that the Islamic party was

incensed
that the Dewan Rakyat speaker had refused to vacate the seats of six MPs who had ceased to be members of Bersatu.
Yet today, they (PAS) are keeping mum and have welcomed a political ‘frog’ who supports them. So, what is PAS’s actual take on this matter?

He was commenting on PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan’s revelation today that Rembia assemblyman Jailani Khamis had joined PAS in June 2023.

Akmal, who is also the Jasin Umno chief, said Jailani’s defection would not have any impact on the party’s state chapter.

We are prepared to go up against PAS and Perikatan Nasional if a by-election is called for Rembia.

Last week, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul decided not to vacate the seats held by six MPs who recently ceased to be members of Bersatu to preserve the

stability in Parliament
.

The six MPs are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Several PAS leaders, including its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, subsequently accused Johari of contravening the Federal Constitution and questioned the need for an anti-hopping law if it was not going to be enforced. - FMT
