Every player and coach in the national sepak takraw team will receive a RM10,000 reward each from the government following their victories at the 2024 Sepak Takraw World Cup in May.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the reward when he met the national team, which won the doubles and regu titles at the World Cup at Titiwangsa Stadium.

My heartiest congratulations and highest appreciation to the entire national sepak takraw team for bringing honour to the country and elevating the image and standard of Malaysian sepak takraw on the world stage,
 he said, according to Bernama.

During the meeting, Anwar said he discussed sepak takraw’s status as a non-core sport and the need to establish a national sepak takraw stadium.

They also discussed the athletes’ career prospects, welfare and opportunity to further their education.

Aidil Aiman Azwawi and Noraizat Nordin had beaten Thailand’s Seksan Tubtong and Kittiphum Sareebut to lift the doubles title at the tournament.

Farhan Adam, Syahir Rosdi and Azlan Alias dealt Thailand their second defeat when they won the regu title in straight sets.

However, Malaysia’s 33-year drought in the team regu event continued after they lost 1-2 to Thailand in the final. - FMT
