PETALING JAYA
A Year 4 pupil at a primary school in Sandakan, Sabah, died from suspected food poisoning today, the latest in a spate of such cases nationwide.

Mifzal Anaqi Rizal, 10, studied at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Rimba Sandakan and trained under the school’s football academy.

In a Facebook post, the academy said Mifzal, who had represented the academy in the under-10 category, died in his hometown.

Meanwhile, Warisan’s Sekong assemblyman Alias Sani said he would seek confirmation from the authorities whether Mifzal’s death was due to contaminated food or the lack of clean water in Sandakan.

This follows a spate of food poisoning cases nationwide, including one case in Gombak, Selangor, which led to the deaths of a 17-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl.

That particular case saw 82 people, including the two deceased, experiencing food poisoning from food prepared at an event at a school in Gombak.

Similar incidents were reported last month involving 90 students and nine school staff at a Batu Pahat secondary school, as well as 91 students at a primary school in Pulau Gaya, Kota Kinabalu, several days ago.

Earlier this month, 28 students from SM Teknik Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra in George Town had to seek treatment at hospital with food poisoning after they ate a tandoori chicken dish at their school. - FMT
