Muhyiddin to face sedition charge tomorrow

Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin is set to be charged with sedition in Kelantan tomorrow over his speech while on the Nenggiri by-election campaign trail.

Bersatu information chief Razali Idris confirmed reports that Muhyiddin is expected to be charged at the Gua Musang court.

“Yes,” he told Malaysiakini briefly in a text message when asked.

Last week, the Pagoh MP submitted to police 115 statutory declarations (SDs), including his own, backing him to become prime minister in the aftermath of the 15th general election in November 2022, which resulted in a hung Parliament.

The SDs and letters were among the documents Muhyiddin furnished to the police as part of their probe into allegations that he had insulted the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong by bringing up how he had not been invited to form a government after GE15 despite having the support of 115 MPs - including himself.
