Fadhlina urges all parties to stop playing up the issue of school donations

EDUCATION Minister Fadhlina Sidek urged all parties to stop manipulating issues related to the organisation of programmes and the distribution of donations to schools.

She said this issue had been resolved and Education Ministry respected the Cabinet’s decision to maintain the existing guidelines.

“I think this issue has been resolved and we remain together with the decision of the Cabinet (maintaining the guidelines for the organisation of programs and distribution of school donations).

“So, I hope it does not arise again and we focus on the more important issue of education development at the moment,” she told reporters after launching the FIFA School Football Program and the FIFA Women’s Football Campaign at Tasek Permai National School (SK) today.

Controversy regarding donations to schools erupted last month when Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu participated in a fundraising event for a Chinese school that received donations from liquor companies.

Earlier this month, the country’s Aiman was pictured with a mock cheque for over RM3 mil at a concert fundraiser for Tche Min school, a vernacular primary school in the state of Selangor. The mock cheque bore the logo of Tiger Beer.

Opposition politician Selangor PAS Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar seized on the issue and asked if it was an attempt at normalising alcohol in schools. He claimed that the sanctity of Islam would be increasingly threatened by the liberal attitude. –Focus Malaysia
